Application of QR technology to simplify business process and reduce carbon footprint

At Rocktime we are often presented with challenges faced by our clients that require us to take a broad approach to problem solving. Sometimes this requires us to consider writing code that builds functionality that is shaped to perform in a certain manner and involve different audiences. Other times it is understanding technology that exists and adapting its usage with clever software development to enable the same result. Recently a long standing client 'CBL' approached Rocktime with such a challenge.

Challenge - 'How can we address the overhead of resupplying instructions for hire machinery to our customers who fail to return them'?

Solution - ' Digitise all instruction manuals, make them available online and connect the correct manual to the piece of machinery through the use of a QR code'.

The result was a cloud based application which offers the ability to upload Adobe PDF instruction manuals and assign them to a record with a unique identifier in the form of an individual URL string. Using a QR code builder to create QR code image of the URL string print to a sticker and label each and every piece of machinery.

Customers renting machinery are able to scan the QR code (automatically recognised by IOS devices and on Android by downloading a QR code reader app), this launches a web browser and reveals the instructions manual for that piece of machinery.

The added benefit is the removal of paper thereby reducing the company's carbon footprint.
